I am of course sad about it. But, I am happy that we represented India and we were one among the world’s best 60 films which were sent to Oscars. We are disappointed and sad," Aamir told reporters at a press conference at the Sun and Sand hotel here.<br /><a name="more"></a><br />The actor maintained that he doesn’t make films for the Oscars.<br /><br />“I don’t make them for Oscars, neither for any other awards. I make films for the audience. I value whatever response I get from the audience, critics and media. Oscars, Cannes, Berlin Festival - they are like platforms where international audience come to know about our films. If you win there, more people watch them,” said Aamir.<br /><br />“Peepli Live”, the directorial debut of Anusha Rizvi, explores the disparity between rural and urban India.<br /><br />The film failed to make it in the list of nine movies selected for the next next round of voting in the Foreign Language Film category for the 83rd Academy Awards.

Aamir Khan has singularly been gunning for the coveted Golden Man without winning it yet.<br /><br />His film Lagaan may have got the nomination in 2002, but lost out to the Bosnian film No Man’s Land. Since then, films like Rang De Basanti, Taare Zameen Par couldn’t even win the nomination.<br /><br />Even the so-called Indian arthouse cinema hasn’t produced a film worth an Oscar so far.<br /><br />However, it was <a href="http://bollywood3000.blogspot.com/search/label/A%20R%20Rehman?&max-results=4"><b>A R Rahman</b></a> and sound technician Resul Pookutty who made us proud by winning Oscars in 2009 for their work in Slumdog Millionaire.

As he has made the trip before with Lagaan and Taare Zameen Par.<br /><br />Shot in a small village in Madhya Pradesh the film stars theatre actors and is directed by debutant Anusha Rizvi. The low budget film takes a satirical look on the subject of farmer suicides in India and how the media and politicians tackle the issue.<br /><br />The movie follows the story of two poor farmers who face losing their land over an unpaid debt after poor monsoon rains.<br /><a name="more"></a><br />A local politician suggests they commit suicide so their families get compensation. A journalist overhears one of the farmers apparently urging the other to end his own life, triggering a media frenzy about whether he will go through with it, lampooning India's sensationalist television news channels.<br /><br />Peepli had an unexpectedly good run at the box office in India, and a special screening was even held for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by Aamir Khan.
